Before you get in touch.
Yes, a handwritten will is valid if it is written entirely and signed in your own hand. Even so, unclear wording or a mistake in form often leads to disputes, so it is wise to have the will reviewed by an attorney and recorded in the Croatian Register of Wills.
As a rule, the proceedings are started by the court on its own initiative after a death, and they are usually conducted by a notary public acting as the court's commissioner. If the heirs disagree about the facts, they are referred to civil litigation.
An heir is liable for the deceased's debts, but only up to the value of the inherited property. An inheritance can also be renounced, within the deadlines and conditions set by the Inheritance Act (Zakon o nasljeđivanju), so it is best to take that decision with advice.
The cost depends on the scope of the work and the value of the estate, and is calculated under the Attorney Fee Tariff (Odvjetnička tarifa). We agree on it in advance.
